Childish Gambino’s Stunning Atlanta Show Redefines Concert Production

Donald Glover - Childish Gambino - took fans in State Farm Arena on Monday on an unforgettable two-hour, 28-song journey that spanned 5 albums and nearly 10 years of music for The New World Tour.
The bittersweet goodbye tour surely left its mark by setting a high standard in concert production and stage design. The show featured two stages with Glover first appearing on the hidden b-stage leaving eager fans in the pit scrambling backwards from the main stage to catch his opening sequence of H3@RT$ W3RE M3@NT T0 F7¥. The Atlanta filmmaker and actor donned an electric motorcycle helmet with an LCD face displaying the waveform of his voice where his mouth was. Towards the end of the set, Glover called upon the audience to choose which song to perform, with the crowd utilizing their cheers to select III. Telegraph Ave. ("Oakland" by Lloyd) over II. Shadows.
A chandelier-like installation hung over the audience and stage often moving up and down with corresponding lights coming together to imitate a hologram. The tour's dystopian themes tied into the post-apocalyptic universe explored in Glover's latest album, Bando Stone & The New World. This is deemed to be the last studio album Glover will release under the moniker Childish Gambino.

The immersive experience was brought to life by Tobias Rylander who is responsible for the show, stage, and lighting design. He notably has worked on other infamous tour designs such as Beyonce's Renaissance Tour and The 1975's Still At Their Very Best Tour.
